Apple says: Hello Ford – Bye Bye BlackBerry.
Ford Motor Company is dumping Blackberry handsets and replacing them with Apple iPhones.
According to Craig Trudell and Keith Naughton of Bloomberg.com in an article posted Jul 29, 2014, Ford plans to replace around 3,300 phones before the end of 2014.
Quoted in the same article, Sara Tatchio, a Ford spokeswoman, said in an interview: “We are going to get everyone on iPhones. It meets the overall needs of the employees because it is able to serve both our business needs in a secure way and the needs we have in our personal lives with a single device.” Read more: Ford to Ditch BlackBerrys for iPhones
Ford – Bye Bye BlackBerry
As if the Apple plus IBM partnership wasn’t bad enough news for Blackberry, this has got to really take the wind out their sails. The struggling one-time-leader in the smartphone market, according to a forecast in May from researcher IDC, is predicted to drop to less than a 1% share.
This kind of news coming out of Ford – one of the biggest automakers in the world and an IBM customer, must surely underscore the value of the Apple working with IBM in the enterprise.
We may see many more huge companies make announcements like this in the future.
