Apples App Store Still Miles Ahead of the Competition

According to a post released by the businessinsider.com in their Chart Of The Day feature, there are thousands more Apps available in Apples App Store than there are Apps available for any other platform.

The ranking goes something like this:

  1. Apple
  2. 170,000

  3. Google Android
  4. 30,000

  5. Research In Motion | BlackBerry
  6. 5,000

  7. Palm
  8. 2,000

Considering that Apple has been selling the iPhone and the iTouch for quite a while, it’s not surprising. What is surprising is where Google is compared to the pack. In a relatively short period of time Google has been able to inspire developers to provide 6 times the number of Apps for Android compared to development of applications available for RIMs BlackBerry. Wow!

Palm laggs way behind in this category and considering the time they’ve had to develop their ecosystem, it may be another indicator of Palms strength moving forward. Recent comments from the financial community reported in the Wall Street Journal don’t paint a pretty picture.
